Living in Romania was, to me like being in the forty's and fifty's in Britain. A slower pace, not as much stress and as you see many still using horse and cart. Some of my memories of my childhood in Hyde were of going out with the local farmer on his horse and cart delivering the milk. The milk was in churns and we ladled out a gill of milk and poured it into jugs that customers left on their doorsteps.
I did go quite often to visit poor villages with Kathy to see what we could help with, we took food and clothes and of course our love., for , "There , but for the grace of God go I ". I always used to help two old lady's in town who begged every day to make their meagre pensions spin out, they were very grateful and it was nice to be nice.
The country side was beautiful with fields and fields of sunflowers, lots of lovely wild flowers. We took some of the street children for picnics they thought it was great fun and enjoyed the food and juice, we played ball and other games. It was great to see them smiling and having fun.

Hi Rose Thanks for you lovely comments on my blog. We do have a lot in common as I quickly read a couple of your posts and saw that you visited Oldham for a wedding. I was born in Royton on the edges of Oldham an 1945 so spent most of my young and teenage years in Oldham. It's not a bad thing to be living at the 50's pace. We used to have our milk delivered by a horse and cart firstly poured into a jug from an urn and then after the TB scare in bottles from a TB tested herd. One of my first introductions to crochet items was the doily under the milk jug and the cover complete with beads around the edge to weight the cover down and keep the flies out of the milk in summer. We didn't have a fridge in those days just a cool marble shelf in the pantry. They were uncomplicated days and so I envy you in your return to the simpler life.

Hello!
It was nice to find your blog while actually searching for life under communism in Romania. I moved to USA a little over 2 years ago, but my heart is still in Romania where I lived for 42 years. I hope you enjoy my country, with its good and bad things.
Nice to meet you, Rose!
La revedere!
Dana
